Tim’s mum is an engineer and she’s brilliant at explaining how things work, whether it’s remote controls, cloud computing, supermarket scanners or tablet computers. She does this whenever and wherever she and Tim might be; whether it’s making a sandwich or sitting in a traffic jam.
I invented this character for the Institution of Engineering and Technology although she’s become a very useful character for all sorts of tech themed series. The everyday settings and simple explanations make this a super accessible way to bring these topics to life.
The science and technology companies we work with are frequently keen to encourage women into their industries and I have always relished inventing and writing for a range of positive female science and engineering characters including; Techno Mum, K Mistry, Amy Aviation and Marina Venturer.
